My best friend

Little did I know that evening Nick and I met as new members at Manifold Golf Club during the late 80's that such a good friendship would blossom. We agreed to pair up and play together and eventually get our first handicaps of 24 & 26, Nick was always the best golfer then so yes he was the lower one.

Our lives had a lot of comparisons - apart from our passion of Golf, with many rounds together and also watching the Pro's play, we both loved football and were keen woodworkers. Our families grew up together as his 2 boys were the same ages as my 2 girls and we also both had a first grandchild called Ethan.

Our favourite golf memory was on November 1st 2000 when we made it to the Final of our club doubles [5-Lakes] where we met 2 good friends Paul Bowers & John Eddols. I cant remember the handicaps exactly but I believe Nick and I were off 8 and the opposition a little higher? Anyway we had a poor start with a double bogey to lose the 1st hole but both then played brilliant better-ball to drop only 2 more shots to be winning the morning round 6 Up. The opposition rallied a bit in the afternoon round by pulling it back to just 4 holes but we held out to win 4&3. Such a wonderful memory that lit up Nick's eyes as he recalled this at our final meeting.

Nick was kind, generous and a true gentleman and I was privileged to have him as a best friend. I will miss him dearly.
